1) SAHASTRARA
Sahastrara, which is known as the Crown Chakra, is the Chakra of consciousnesss. This is the “master” Chakra, which oversees and controls the rest of them; it’s associated with the pituitary gland, which secretes hormones controlling the endocrine system.
This Chakra also connects to the CNS via the hypothalamus, which plays a part in the physical basis of consciousness. Sahastrara is symbolised by a lotus with a thousand petals, obviously the greatest number of petals of all the Chakras; its color is white or violet, the colors of royalty.
2) AJNA
Ajna, which is known as the Third Eye Chakra, is associated with the pineal gland, and is the Chakra of time, awareness, and light. It’s located in the eye area. The pineal gland is light-sensitive, while it secretes the melatonin hormone. This hormone regulates the entire sleep cycle.
The pineal gland also may secrete small amounts of the psychadelic chemical dimethyltryptamine. Ajna is symbolised by a lotus with two petals; its color is indigo or deep bluish-purple, the color of depth, profundity, and wisdom.
3) VISHUDDHI
Vishuddhi, which is known as the Throat Chakra, relates to both communication and growth. This is because growth pertains to being a form of expression. This Chakra is located in the throat, and it’s associated with the thyroid gland, which secretes thyroid hormone. This hormone controls growth and aging. Vishuddhi is symbolised by a lotus with sixteen petals; its color is azure blue, the color of leadership.
4) ANAHATA
Anahata, which is known as the Heart Chakra, correlates to the higher emotions. These include compassion, love, even-temperedness, and well-being of the spirits. This Chakra is located in the chest. It’s associated with the thymus gland, which is part of the immune system, as well as the endocrine system; it produces the T cells which fight diseases, and is impacted negatively by stress. Anahata is symbolised by a lotus with twelve petals; its color is green, the color of nature.
5) MANIPURA
Manipura, which is known as the Solar Plexus Chakra, is located in the groin. It’s related to the basest emotions, human sexuality, and creativity. This Chakra is associated with either the testicles or the ovaries, which produce the corresponding sex hormones involved in reproduction; these may cause sudden, sharp changes in mood. Manipura is symbolised by a lotus with six petals; its color is yellow, the color of high emotion and intellectual “deep feelings.”
6) SWADHISTANA
Swadhistana, which is known as the Sacrum Chakra, is the Chakra of emotional and sexual energy. Its activation and “opening” stimulates the Kundalini energies, which are important for the maintenance of sexual desires, and also for sexual “good health.”
The location is in the sacral region of the body, or the lower back. It also influences human creativity, such as love of the arts, music, dancing, and theatre. Swadhistana through Kundalini is symbolised by a lotus with six petals; its color is orange, the color of creativity.
7)MOOLDHARA
Which is known as the Base or Root Chakra, is located between the genitals and the anus. It’s intertwined with the instincts, survival, security, and human potential, and instead of an endocrinal gland, it’s associated with the inner adrenal medulla, which is responsible for the “fight or flight” mechanism.
Also, in the region where this Chakra is located, there’s a muscle which controls sexual ejaculation. When it comes to this particular Chakra, it’s said the sperm cell and the ovum, where the genetic codes are located, are “coiled” like a serpent in this Chakra. Its Kundalini energies are symbolised by a lotus with four petals; its color is red or coral red, the color of emotional turmoil - and a multitude of exotic pleasures.
Seven Chakras - Associative Properties
The list below shows the relationship of each of the seven important Chakras - and its proper “yogic” Indian name - to its color, its primary functions, its associated elements, and the number of petals on its associated lotus flower:
1. Crown Chakra or Sahastrara = white or violet = connection to the divine = space and thought = thousand petal lotus
2. Third eye Chakra or Ajna = indigo = intutition and extra-sensory perception = time and light = two petal lotus
3. Throat Chakra or Vishuddhi = azure blue = speech and self-expression = life and sound = sixteen petal lotus
4. Heart Chakra or Anahata = green = devotion, love, compassion, and healing = air = twelve petal lotus
5. Solar plexus Chakra or Manipura = yellow = mental functioning, power, control, freedom to be oneself, and career = fire = ten petal lotus
6. Sacrum Chakra or Swadhistana = orange = emotion, sexual energy, and creativity = water = six petal lotus
7. Root Chakra or Mooladhara = red or coral red = instinct, survival, and security = earth = four petal lotus
It’s important to know the correct associated color for a specific Chakra, as the wrong “hue” may lead to different “paths” to the wrong energy systems for that Chakra. However, different systems are always associated with different colors, even when they “cross paths.”
The colors in the list above actually represent each separate color of the rainbow, and thus are all monochromatic. They also correspond to the frequencies of the Seven Spirits, the Seven Planes, and the platonic categorization of gnosis, among other such both earthly and other-worldly correspondencies.
